Parables of Jesus

A parable is a story with a hook in it. Jesus told them to crowds who thought they were only hearing about farming, wages and lost property, and by the end the story had turned around and was looking at the listener.

Each entry here gives the whole parable — the full span of verses, not a single line lifted out — because these stories only work when you read them to the end. Start with the Prodigal Son, the Good Samaritan or the Sower, and read slowly enough to notice where you appear in it.
