Read 1 John 4:18 in the NABRE onlineFear is not in charity: but perfect charity casteth out fear, because fear hath pain. And he that feareth, is not perfected in charity.
Reflection
Perfect love drives out fear because fear has to do with punishment. John is not saying fear is a character flaw; he is saying it is a symptom of not yet knowing how loved you are. The cure for fear is deeper love, not more courage.
