Read 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 in the NABRE online

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort. Who comforteth us in all our tribulation; that we also may be able to comfort them who are in all distress, by the exhortation wherewith we also are exhorted by God.

Reflection

God is the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort — Paul does not say much comfort or occasional comfort. And the comfort you receive has a destination: it is meant to be passed on to the next person who needs it.

The God of all comfort

Paul calls God the Father of mercies, which is plural on purpose. The comfort you receive has a destination — it is meant to be passed on to the next person who is suffering. Comfort that stops with you has not finished its work.
