Read Philippians 4:6-7 in the NABRE online

Be nothing solicitous; but in every thing, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your petitions be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasseth all understanding, keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Reflection

Paul does not tell an anxious church to stop feeling anxious. He tells them where to put it: into prayer, with thanksgiving. The peace promised here is not an explanation — it is a guard posted over the heart while the situation is still unresolved.

The peace that guards

Paul names anxiety first and peace second, but the order of experience is reversed: you pray first, and peace arrives as a guard. The peace is described in military terms — it stands watch over the heart and mind, which is exactly where anxiety attacks.
